Ischia

Is the largest island in the bay of Naples covering a surface of 47 square kms and divided into six municipalities: Ischia, Casamicciola Terme, Lacco Ameno, Forio e Serrara fontana. The highest pick in mount Epomeo (787metres). By local bus it is possible to have a complete tour of the island along its main road in less than 2 hours. Ischia has a volcanic origin and the visitors desembark in a port once a volcanic lake. It was opened to the sea thanks to king Ferdinand II of Bourbon in 1854. Ischia is famous for a thermal wealth unequalled in Europe, the therapeutic value of the waters have been known since roman times. On this island you can just relax on one of the many beaches or in one of the many spa. But if you like it is also possible to visit monuments like the Aragonese Castle or the archaeological museum of Villa Arbusto. Famous are "La mortella" gardens wanted by Sir William Walton and designed in 1956 by Russell Page. Today you will still find his wife Susan Walton there and if you are lucky even meet her that can tell you an unforgettable introduction to the gardens.
