  • Truly special place to stay

We had a truly wonderful holiday at Casale Villarena in September this year. We stayed in one of the beautiful apartments, La Rotunda. The pictures on the website don’t show just how lovely the apartment is -very comfortable with plenty of space, there is a beautiful and recently renovated bathroom. Our own balcony had a beautiful view of the sea and the islands with space for a table and chairs so we could sit and relax there. The apartment was cleaned to sparkling level several times while we were there and our towels changed. We cooked for ourselves a few nights but the restaurant at the Casale is wonderful so we often ate there. The setting is lovely – the restaurant is on a terrace below the apartments and overlooking the sea and the headland. The service and the food were excellent – we sometimes had a full meal, other times we just felt like pasta or shared one of the amazing antipasti dishes as well. I have to have a gluten free diet and had emailed the Casale beforehand to check this was OK. In fact nothing was too much trouble and I was able to eat the most delicious gluten free food at all times. Breakfast in the terrace restaurant is included in the price of the rental and this was also lovely with a huge range of food and for me, always gluten free bread, toast, crackers available. Friday night is pizza night at the restaurant and I have never had such delicious gluten free pizzas and focaccia nor has my husband ever been asked what he would like for his second pizza – we ate there two consecutive Fridays but made sure to eat very little during the day the second time… Nerano was an excellent base for our holiday. It took a week to get used to the driving – the roads are very winding and quite narrow – and the Nastro Azurro sights are spectacular but very, very crowded. We had taken walking boots and enjoyed walking the Sentiero degli Dei above Positano far more than driving there. (We had a delicious lunch in the Trattoria Santa Croce in Nocelle, perched above Positano with spectacular views.) Walking to (and swimming in) the beautiful Bay of Ieranto was also well worth the effort but it is a stiff climb. Pompeii and Vesuvius are only an hour’s drive away. In our second week we found that we wanted to keep exploring the Nastro Verde – the roads to the West of Nerano with fabulous views of Capri and Vesuvius but with unspoilt and uncrowded villages and tiny towns to visit. The little resort of Marina del Cantone directly below Nerano is a lovely place and we spent many happy hours there, either relaxing on the sunbeds, walking round the headland or eating amazing ice creams in a little café next to the jetty. Some days we simply spent lazing around the grounds of the Casale, there is a swimming pool, sunloungers, beautiful and very well kept gardens and the amazing views. We will definitely return to Casale Villarena – the wonderful host and all his fabulous staff have made a truly special place to stay.

  • The best so far

Tastefully modernised old building and our room was fantastic. Quiet location in pretty fishing village. The staff went out of their way to cater for my dietary needs - gluten free food - and every meal was superb. Can't praise Casale Villarena or its wonderful friendly & helpful staff enough. A truly memorable holiday.

  • Fantastico

We stayed the first night at their apartment at the beach as there was no room at the main house (this was pre-arranged), which was nice, went to the house for breakfast and were able to move into our room straight away. This is an amazing place, beautiful, charming, old building, with rooms sympathetically modernised. Mariateresa is extremely helpful, speaks excellent English, seems to manage to be everywhere all the time and sorts out your queries almost before you have asked them! Guglielmo (the owner) is a good host and one night gave a few of us a tour of his wine cellar, which is directly underneath the village church. The food in the restaurant is fantastic (we regretted eating one night at the beach), and much of it comes from their own farm. Home made limoncello divine. We were only there for two days (sadly), did a day trip one day to Positano (car) and got a boat to Amalfi and back. Glad we did it, but equally glad to get back to the tranquillity of Casale Villarena and Nerano. The second day we just stayed by the pool and relaxed in the gardens. How sweet it is to do nothing! (this is the name of the restaurant, Dolce Far Niente). There is a wifi in the bar/restaurant and in a special room laid out for the purpose, which we found very useful. We spent 2 weeks touring around Italy, but this was the only place we felt really sorry to leave.

  • This must be "heaven"

The Amalfi coast, excursions to Capri, Positano, Pompeii ,Vesuvius. Forget the car, waste of money. This was holiday! Even our children learnt to speak German and English with new friends from Norway and Germany! Don't be afraid, ask Guglielmo , the great boss , from day 1, to arrange everything. You will enjoy trips with the boat, and privat busses . They care to please you . The boss and lovely Mariateresa, and friendly Antonio, make everybody happy. You'll find new friends at BBQ , pizza eve's and test winery meal. best place to be. We used restaurant facility more than we thought. I disagree with remarks from crkLondon: remarks about breakfast? They forget to tell you about best kitchen and excellent wines(Tauri and Lachrima de Christ). Maybe the contra's had exaggerated to stay to long in the sun. Thank you Staff!

  • Lovely place - great hospitality

Relaxed place with comfortable accommodation and an excellent restaurant. We ate out a couple of times but the best meals by far were at Villarena. Guglielmo organises welcome nights, BBQs and pizza nights - fantastic views over the Bay of Salerno from the terrace. Also boat trips and trips to Vesuvius and Pompeii - these were a real highlight. Bit of a trek down to the beach but good exercise. Excellent hospitality from Guglielmo and his team including Mariateresa and Antonio. A great place to go back to.

  • Amazing place - where do I start!?

My sister picked this place for my family of four (two teens) to meet up with her and her husband for a week on the Amalfi coast. We only planned to stay a few days. If I'd known how amazing the place and people were, we'd have only stayed here. Our rooms were beautiful, the views were spectacular, the food was fresh and amazing. We took a cooking class there together and ate our own creation! Gugliermo arranged for a day long trip to Capri with just the six of us on a boat with the most wonderful captain Mario (ask for him!). He even helped up line up a great tour guide for Pompeii days after we left Nerano. Mariateresa is a dear. We left feeling like family. They can hook you up with any kind of day trip or experience you are looking for. We met others who come back year after year. I'll dream of a return trip.

  • Cozy hotel with nice view

The hotel is located a in massa lubrense, which is a place away from the principal city, so is better if you arrived by car. Also, the place is not easy to find. There are few restaurants, stores, markets nor bars in the surroundings. There is a beach near to the hotel, where you can take boat trips to the important local atractions, such as costa d'amalfi and capri island. Another good thing is the nice view you have from the hotel. The hotel room was comfortable, but there was no wi-fi service. The restaurant had excellent food. All the staff were very friendly
