A special getaway

Casale Villarena on the Amalfi coast of Italy is a wonderful getaway. A number of newly renovated apartments within a castle in the centre of the village. Our apartment was modern and spacious yet retaining the old charm of the castle. The kitchen was well equipped, the furnishings very comfortable, the bathroom compact but clean. The balcony was also small but with a view like that it doesn't matter! Our children spent hours entertaining themselves in the excellent playarea and even took a dip in the pool, which was so inviting despite being still cold after winter. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to enjoy the BBQ and cabana area, but we did savour the delights from the numerous lemon trees in the gardens. Our host Guglielmo was always happy to assist with our sometimes unusual requests and went out of his way to help when we had a problem. We couldn't have asked for a better holiday location, away from the crowds of the large towns, but easy access to all the regions attractions. We had a wonderful stay and would love to visit again.

Aprés avoir passé notre preniére remaine á Casale Villarena (Nerano), nous sommes partis pour Calabre, Sicilie, Ombrie, Toscane Ligurie et finalement, aprés la 3° semaine nous sommes revenus á Casale Villarena (NErano) le petit village de pêcheur totalement authentique qui a su gagner notre coeur. Casale Villarena est un endroit trés propre, charmant qui a garrdé son identité. Merci á Guglielmo. Antoine, Neil, Brigitte - Canada, Québec.

We had a fantastic fortnight at Casale Villarena. It may seem a bit out of the way but it is within easy reach of big tourist attractions such as Sorrento, Pompeii, Capri and Positano. But, to be honest, when the weather was warmer in our second week we could hardly drag ourselves away from the sunny terraced garden, its lemon trees and views over the Gulf of Salerno. The beach at nearby Marina del Cantone is the best beach we have seen in the area and the 1km walk down (and up!) is a dawdle, even for us - and Eleanor is almost seven months pregnant. We went on an excellent boat trip to Capri from the marina, run by a local cooperative, which was very good value, with an English-speaking guide explaining points of interest round the coast and which included six hours on the island and a visit to the Blue Grotto. You won't find many British tourists round here, which adds to the charm of the place. The excellent restaurants at Marina del Cantone are very popular with Italians. There are also many pretty walks around the area. Our favourite was the path to the beach at Ieranto. Hope this is OK and that the rest of the season is busy for you.
